SEO AND LSI NEW NAME OLD CONCEPT
By Katharella
EVERYONE HAS TO BE THE FIRST?
OK, I'm going to start this with a very simple concept that should make those with very little knowledge of the Internet or how it works understand without a lot of "fluff" that the masterminds add to make it sound so complicated that the average Joe will just give up and hire someone! Why? When you can do it yourself!
It's not complicated at all. In fact it's a very simple marketing concept and I used it the whole time I was a webmaster for several different websites. If there are questions as to why I do not be a webmaster anymore is because that market has changed, and made it easier for a programmer to do them for themselves, companies have outsourced until ours is dry, and American's don't want to pay American's an American wage.
When I was webmaster, the going rate per hr. was $75. and since I did freelance rather than work for a company I only charged small companies or persons half that price. For 12 years I did a website for a musician (I'll leave unnamed) as both a practice at handling a fan base and as great practice on how to work on the site making it incredible for both him and his fans.
I also found working with people directly was near impossible, no matter how well you did, you could make fans (or viewers) happy but you can never make the person you are working for happy. They ask for things, you do them, then they change their mind and want something else, then don't want to pay for the time you spent doing what they said. Yes, even at half price.
So, if you're building your own website using one of the many hosting companies that offer the tools to build a great wysiwyg website knowing just one tiny detail can put you either at the top or as close to the top of any search out there. After all, if you think about it, if you are building a website, say, promoting "A Halloween Party" then you don't need to keyword spam your page, nor do you have to go about trying to fit it in as many times as you possibly can on the first paragraph of any of your pages.
Let's just say, your website has more than one page.
In case you're asking why I would do this hub, and give this slight bit of information for free is because as I was writing something for someone (pay no attention to the grammar and lack of or excess use of punctuation, as here, these things are not of importance as when you work for someone else, the proverbial "man behind the curtain" doesn't exist here) I offered this service to someone who said they were already paying someone to do it for them. No, I did not ask them how much they were paying and try to beat their price, but even considering the fact programming is like learning a language you never knew existed, it's incredibly hard until you get the concept, and once you've got it, all else comes easily. I most certainly would have beat the price, but I'm not going to argue with someone whom I am working for. Besides, why even bring it up further when I can move on to the next dollar sign since it's calling my name!
Now where was I! :) Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it won't help to keyword spam but it's not exactly becoming, and it's not the key either.
I'm going to use this as an example for a website. Yours might differ, so just replace my words with yours.
Yes, I am giving this information for free, it doesn't matter to me I just hope that somewhere along the line it helps people understand that everyone isn't out to take your money, and sometimes there's people out here who don't mind giving you a tidbit of information on something that can help you get ahead. If you do use my information, then just remember millions of other people are actually paying to know what I'm going to tell you for free, and THEY TOO, ARE USING THE SAME KNOWLEDGE TO GET TO THE TOP OF THE SEARCH, when everyone else is too!
EVERYONE CANNOT BE #1. So, don't let people fool you into believing you can be. If everyone has the same information, then how can everyone be assured to be first? Make since? YOU CAN BE #1 IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING, A SERVICE, A PRODUCT OR A NAME THAT NOBODY ELSE HAS. Then you've got it in the bank that you'll be in that #1 spot.
Let's get started. Now if you want to at least be on the first page, you've got to follow the rules. Rule #1 is your KEYWORD has to be at the beginning IN YOUR HTML because if it's not, and someone else has a topic the same as yours, and they know programming, then they've already put the keyword FIRST in their html!
I started our test topic to be "A Halloween Party" so you have to decide what you think will be the best term about Halloween parties would be. Let's say, I'm going to buy a domain name and make my own Halloween website. Of course I want people to visit mine first, but I know there is a plethora of Halloween websites already out there. So, in planning mine, I need mine to be unique and easier to navigate than the others. I have to make buying a costume, idea's for costumes, photographs, descriptions and the overall site better in order to make more sales!
Let's skip ahead and say, I have done that (I haven't, so don't search it out ok!) this is to teach you how to be better than them, and be the website out of all the ones on the first page that they choose. You're choice of words on the first page is imperative to getting people to pick yours, but there's the SEO / LSI "niche" (new name for old concept) that just puts you close to the top. Let's assume most people set their browsers to put a tiny bit of the first paragraph in as they scroll down the list too. That's going to help them decide to pick YOURS out of the list!
Either you, or your programmer needs to go into your HTML on your first page, and put whichever keyword(s) on a top line that DOES NOT SHOW UP ON THE PAGE ONCE IT IS SAVED! NO ONE ELSE CAN SEE IT BUT YOU WHEN YOU LOOK AT YOUR HTML!
DID YOU SEARCH SEO AND/OR LSI?
If you did, (or didn't, and are reading because you just like to read things) ;) then you most likely found this on one of the many pages that tell what SEO and/or LSI means! Because I purposely put "SEO & LSI" in the name at the top of the page I'm creating.
If you RIGHT click your mouse on a WHITE area anywhere on this page, look down the list and choose "view page source" it will open a box that tells you everything it takes to build this page. All the details aren't important, unless you're looking for what scripts they use here at hubpages. It's that top line that beings with
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//
that is what is important to making this page SEO/LSI, perfect for search engines to find it. The "greater than / less than" signs begin and end a section, the exclamation mark isn't exclaiming anything, it's telling the program NOT to add this content to the page to be seen. Followed by DOCTYPE html PUBLIC is telling your computer this is a document that will be html and public the quote mark ends that and the -// begins whatever information is pertinent to the programming of the document, or html page. If you scroll across it, you'll see the name of my url and SEO AND LSI NEW NAME OLD CONCEPT, then the rest of the information it needs. The slashes either work in two's or singular. They STOP the program, and let the computer begin to read in a "top down - left to right" fashion what the program will do next. If you really study it for a few minutes you'll see what I mean.
It's not a rule of "every time" because sometimes, the program needs to reach over and grab a script from another part of the document. But that's because the first script told it too. It will not read anything in between the slashes! So, if you want your website that sells, say, "President Halloween Costumes" then make sure you put that exact quote in between double slashes, and if your other pages are, "celebrities - witches - monsters" etc. then make sure those words come first in the html as you see in the document. Your program with wysiwyg programming will take care of all other scripts. There are sites to add more scripts to your site, so use what you've learned here to find them!
On the page where you're typing in your websites from your editor, all you have to do is type out, what kind of Halloween costumes (or your content) your site sells! BAM! If you're not already at the top of the search page results, you are ON that page! Good luck, and I hope this helps someone out there looking to be first, but don't forget, you need to promote your site, and it doesn't always have to be with ad's, it can be by making blogs, twitter, or anyone of the many sites! Sign up to as many as you can, and begin it with naming yourself something relevant to your business! You'll be having sales quick and easy, and if you are a good graphic designer, then you have everything it takes to make your website off to start making sales quickly!
SEO AND LSI - LET ME KNOW IF THIS HELPS YOU WITH YOUR PAGE!
Thank you! I hope it helps you, and if there is anything else I ever can help you with, let me know! I only took two courses, and about a year later I realized everyone was switching from C++ to Visual Basic, then I knew it would eventually get to the web page based editor so I didn't want to waste my credits there. Plus I liked photography and journalism better lol! The HTML was super easy once you just know the basics of how it works. If you decide on your own domain name, pick a good American based company.
These two things are another marketing ploy of google. Don't get me wrong, I love Google, but it still blocks out (and more to be) a lot of things we need to know about webpages. If countries can block them, they can block us. Like the motherland of China cannot use Google. I'm pretty sure it's outer laying countries can though. When you do get set up, don't wait for crawlers to find your site, go submit them to even rare ones you 'think' nobody uses! :)
Hello, Katharella,
Well, thank you very much for writing and publishing this hub. For me, it is very educational, especially since I am just feeling my way around when it comes to key words, SEO, etc.
I have bookmarked this post so I can study it.
Hi Feenix! You're welcome! I hope you find it helpful. There's not many people who are going to come out and just say they've put a new name on an old concept! It's like, everyone has to be on the latest bandwagon when it's not necessary. A new word to make money off of marketing.
When I re-read this I see I left out small things that can confuse a new webmaster doing it on their own. I'll go back in and revise, but for now in case you don't already know the wysiwyg is the acronym for "What You See Is What You Get" so for HTML editors, you make your page however the program works (some are drag n' drop) but it's not true to the name either because if you can switch over to the code, you'll see what's NOT on your page, that's where the keywords are most important. It is important to have it on the page as well, but more important to have it in the HTML that nobody sees. Maybe it'd help people if I did a hub on that as well! Thanks for the inspiration. :)
OK, I am the non-technician and very lost - very helpful article but I am confused. The webmaster can see the HTML and Google can also see it?
Basic question and perhaps this is a subject for another hub from you - what are SEO companies doing? Can we do this ourselves?
Yes yes and yes yes. :) If you RIGHT click your mouse on a page and choose "view source" you can see the html of any document.
If you go look at it, even this page click that on a white area of the page, anything you cannot see on the page is either script or after a double slash, look and see what you CANNOT see on the page. If you put that in your html you can write anything you want in that first line and google or any search engine crawler picks it up within about 24-48 hours. Unless they have a script that disables right click. Some art pages have that so you cannot steal artwork or photos, or they have pattern recognition (like faces) that will block it from even showing up on a screen snap.

This is very interesting and useful. I will be creating a website for a book and this gives me an idea of what happens in the process. Thank you Kathy! You are a jewel to me.
